Apartment in the newly built housing estate on Krestovsky Island, St. Petersburg, Russia
Total area: 250 m2
Height: 3,2-2,7 m
From the project to realization: 2 years
This project was done for a newborn child, for the boy could enjoy a sunny atmosphere looking at beautiful paintings, and grow up a well-balanced, intellectual person with rich sensuality. For this purpose, there is no need to fill a space with much furniture; it is quite enough to fill it with right color. It does not mean asceticism as a credo. First, we think about comfort, then quality and design. No need to follow a “single style”; that is why the furniture by Giorgio Piotto is not alien to lightings by Ralph Lauren. Things lose the signs of epoch and certain style, and become timeless. The latest trend in interior design is a discreet luxury, and the most beautiful feature of this epoch is a luxury of individuality.
Thanks to Campion Umbrella Chandelier — an adaptation of French bistro lighting of the late XIX century — the children bathroom is full of light. Tarnished nickel on the faceted crown top gives the interior a burst of antique mirrored glass rays. The cupboard Vanity by Barbara Barry inspired me for decoration of walls. Pale Lime color from 50s, yellow door and teak on the floor make the bathroom full of joy.
Nikolai Romanov’s landscape The Road to the Mountains is a starting point for design in the bedroom. It is tranquil and a bit foggy, but still creates a summer mood full of cypress smell. Ivory shutters and curtains, light olive walls and warm teak flooring support the atmosphere of the landscape.
The bureau with a chair, the bed with two side cupboards, and chest of drawers — not so many pieces of furniture in this room.
Venetian masks are the prototype of decorative scheme for the master bathroom: red of furniture, dark green of walls, matt gold of mixer taps, Yellow Atlantida on the top of cupboard and in the shower zone. The painting by Igor Tchukhleb helps to create the Venetian mood.
It's is a space for personal realization of the customer. Hi-End acoustics is his hobby, and the quality of sound is perfect
It contained not so many demands, and all they were about comfort.
1. Prepare a new plan to satisfy the needs of four members of the family: separate the nurseries from the study with home cinema, and combine large living room with cozy kitchen, where, traditionally, Russian people like to receive guests
2. Ensure solid acoustic isolation everywhere
3. Create a private art gallery with individual lighting scenario for paintings, which could be used as a night-light
4. Organize as many storage zones as possible
In the new plan we have a totally isolated parent’s zone, which includes bedroom, bathroom, large cloakroom, study and laundry. Nevertheless, the bedroom is next to the nurseries, all they have direct approach to the kitchen-living room, where the family spend most of daytime.
There was no need in the third bathroom; therefore, I arranged there a laundry room.
The huge windows in the kitchen-living room I suggested to turn into high doors with Venetian blinds. The terrace, now heated and open, turned into a mini gym. Thanks to re-planning, my customers have additional 34 m2 of living area instead of huge corridors and cold balcony.
