Spring has finally arrived – the birds are happy, the flower markets are busy and beautiful and you're ready to step out of hibernation and get your apartment back in shape!  The spring is a time for new beginnings and clean slates and there's no better idea then starting with your very own living space.

Some spring trends that we've noticed (and love) are pastel colour palettes with a little spice added to them, tons of fresh interior plants and flowers and colourful rugs for those chilly spring days that we know are still lurking out there somewhere.

It is possible to decorate your apartment for spring and make it look as though it fits for happiness year-round, and we've got the tips and tricks to successfully help you create a fresh interior slate!  Below we have listed six ways in which you can prep your one-bedroom apartment for spring, and perhaps for a great rest of the year as well!

Light blue & pink interior colours

Living Spaces, ERC ERC Гостиная в скандинавском стиле

Light blue and pink go together unlike any other colours.  Historically speaking, we use these two colours to define so many events, emotions and feelings in life that we forget the powerful effect they can have when applied in our home not separately, but together.

Think it's crazy to paint with not one, but two colours in your apartment? Trust us, like most risky design ideas, when done right the effects can be inspirational and the most empowering DIY project you could ever complete.  Take a look at this example and see how great the pastels work together with a neutral rug and mostly neutral, Scandinavian-style furnishings. The daring design trick in this living room was the addition of a brighter blue couch – but as you can see, with a great large-format piece of art this space has defined it's own boundaries and you should too!

Feel the outdoors inside

There are generally two reasons why homeowners won't consider bringing lots of plants and flowers into their home: allergies and limited time/upkeep. Let us be the first to tell you that neither of these circumstances are an okay reason to avoid the beauty and health that interior plants can bring into your home.

Our two favourite plants are aloe vera and the pothos plant for their low maintenance, tough nature and the fact that they both possess certain air-filtering abilities, keeping the air in your home always fresh and clean! However, plants don't have to be the only way in which you keep your apartment feeling as though spring is right inside!

Open your windows, take down your heavy curtains and replace them with sheers, and exchange those heavy winter throws and blankets for something lighter and more fresh!  It's the small details that remind you which season it is in your very own home!

Flowers in zen vessel

A zen vessel is a wonderful (and easy) way to bring peace, harmony and a contemplative environment to your home. The zen experience is based off the value that meditation, intuition and introspection provide a being, rather than ritualistic worship and study of scriptures.

A zen vessel is an easy way to incorporate the basic inspirations that zen can offer, even if it's not your spiritual system. As seen in this example, a zen vessel can be quite beautiful in its layering of materials.  Here we have wood and glass with coloured elements showing how minimalist and  modern a zen vessel can be.

Curtains must be long & thin to see the breeze

It's about time to replace those heavy-lined and thick curtains in favour of more light and airy sheers! Sheers will provide entirely more light to your home with the inclusion of privacy and a great look.  We understand that the whole function of window coverings should never be lost: privacy. However, function never has to mean that style is lost as well.

For a sea-breeze type of view and style, choose light-coloured sheers (whites, off-white and lighter grey scale) and place them from the ceiling to the ground – not just fitting the size of the window.  This dramatic length will add the illusion of both height and depth to your home and allow the materials to be fully picked up during the windy elements for a spectacular effect. We suggest you do this in bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms and keep this look out of bathrooms and kitchens for functionality and safety reasons!

Less is more

Less is more rings true just as much today as it did when it was a coined phrase a few decades ago – and for good reason. Keeping your home simple is by far one of the most mind-clearing and best ways to make your life feel cleaner, more organized and inspirational.

With the arrival of spring, we always suggest a proper (and big time!) spring clean, removal of all junk and clearing of bookshelves, countertops and all home surfaces! This kitchen/dining room is a great example of less is more – and it's also exemplary of our aforementioned design trick of combing light blues and pinks for a spring-fresh feel!

Rugs to keep your feet warm

Even though the winter winds are gone and the snow is melted, doesn't mean there won't be some cold days keeping you inside. Especially with hardwood floors, linoleum and concrete surfaces, keeping rugs down year round can be beneficial for foot health and floor warmth.

The Pom-Pom rug pictured here is a perfect example of how one, good-sized rug can add a special touch to your room, whereas most will go rather unnoticed.  This rug is perfectly colourful for the spring and has the design ability to outlast any seasons and almost any tastes.  Choose a rug that you will still love years down the road and choose wisely when it comes to colour palettes and textures.
