Once again the famous Indian summer is here! The joy of vacation fizzes out the moment we think of long sweltering days and struggle to keep the kids inside protected from the throttling sun outside. The attempt to keep the house cool with Air-conditioner and fans comes with side-effect of huge electricity bill and a generous contribution to global warming. However, we can’t stay without it too. The main challenge in the long summer months is to keep the home and family protected from harsh heat and its effect on the general wellbeing of the family. If the home is not comfortable then it will surely ruin the vacation and the family time you have planned to spend together. You cannot change the climate, but you can definitely prepare your home to face the harshness of summer heat. How? Have a look!

​1. Health check-up of Air-conditioner

As the spring sets in to welcome the summer, you call the AC service centre and book to get your AC service done. Make sure AC of your home is clean and working well before you starts using it. A dirty AC could fill the room with dirty unhygienic air thus affecting your family’s health. If the AC is malfunctioning then it will waste energy and will not be effective enough. Get it checked and cleaned by the professionals. They can also check it for any leakage or damage in the unit.

Get the air filter changed frequently. Keep the outdoor air-conditioning unit free from leaves, twigs, bird’s droppings or any other debris. You can install fence for protection. If your building is infested by pigeon or any other birds, you can use bird’s spikes to prevent the pigeon from sitting on the AC and making it dirty. With a smart thermostat you can program to control the temperature automatically and as per your convenience. Many convenient models are available in the market. Some can even control the temperature of multiple areas. With just a touch of screen you can adjust the temperature or switch off the system of the empty room. So even with blinds and curtains closed, your home will get sufficient natural lights. Without a proper window covering, temperature inside the house will certainly drop down. Even your furniture and carpets will be prevented from fading and losing its sheen. You can also create an indoor garden, plant trees and shrubs in and around the house. The greenery will certainly bring in calmness and cool energy.
