Although the entrance to the house is where we receive our guests it’s not a priority, as it’s unlikely we’ll spend much time there. In contrast, the chances are we’ll be in the living room; here it is advisable to remove the dust that accumulates on the TV screen.
The first and most important step is to quickly identify what draws the most attention within the common areas such as the kitchen, the dining room, the sofa and TV area.
First of all clean the surfaces of the tables and counters, and sweep or vacuum the floor too if you have time. There’s no need to use lots of products; be practical and use a damp cloth.
In the bathroom cleanliness is essential, so we should keep it as squeaky clean as possible saving us from becoming stressed when we have unexpected visitors.
However, this doesn’t always happen, especially in a home occupied by a large family. If this is the case, quickly grab a clean towel and clean the mirror. Don't forget to check there’s plenty of toilet paper and hand soap.
Most families use the kitchen every day which means washing the dishes. However, it may be that we only do this at the end of the day, meaning at the end of the day we have a considerable amount of dirty dishes. Now that the guests are about to ring the bell, maybe it's not the best time to get scrubbing dishes. Be practical and quickly place them in the dishwasher, or even inside the oven if it removes them from sight. Failing that, stack them neatly rather than having dishes covering a large surface.
It's easy to identify a home with lots of domestic animals by the amount of hair that our four-legged friends leave their tracks. Having pets is wonderful, but hard work.
First of all, we must keep the house well ventilated and prevent animals from getting on the couch, or at least cover the couch with something to protect it. Thus, when visitors arrive simply remove this protection until it's needed again.
With a little ingenuity, the light can be our ally when it comes to presenting a clean and orderly image of our house.
If your visitor arrives during the day, the best thing to do is is up the blinds and open the windows to ventilate the home and make it a little brighter.
If, on the contrary we have to use artificial lighting, use secondary lamps as the light won’t reach every corner.
It’s important to arrange each element of our living room to give the impression that everything has its place. For example, make sure that the sofa cushions are well placed, and that the tables are aligned with magazines stacked neatly in a pile. These little things only take two minutes and make all the difference.
The odour is one of the most important aspects of how your home is presented. Use scented candles, or air fresheners that in most cases last for months. If you don't have any on hand, open the windows to let in fresh air.
