The Debden Hall estate has long been an important feature in the local area and this is uniquely both a restoration and a ‘grand design’ new-build project.

The original Debden Hall was designed by renowned architect to the nobility of his time, Henry Holland, in 1775, with the gardens believed to have been designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown renowned Landscape Architect who worked many times alongside Holland. Fire destroyed the first Debden Hall in 1929. A second Debden Hall was erected on the estate but in a different location in 1936 but was demolished in the 1960s.

The landowner, our client, has committed to bringing the site back to its Henry Holland and Capability Brown former glory.

Design features:

• The Debden Hall III concept is influenced by Henry Holland’s elegant, neoclassical design

• Decorative plaster and frieze work externally

• A grand entrance hall and grand staircase with roof-light above

• With planning permission, the Grade II listed wrought iron gates on England’s Lane, Loughton, will be restored, as will a sweeping tree-lined driveway leading to the property

• Award-winning landscape designers, Aralia, will reintroduce a variety of historic plantings to the site and the design will be influenced by Capability Brown’s

• A landscaped feature – believed to be an ‘ice house’, a Belvedere or a Tumulus – will form part of the 1.34 acres gifted by the landowner to Epping Forest Country Care for community benefit
